Converting a converter/cartridge fountain pen, is I have discovered, a very, very simple operation. This project requires only four things, 1) first and most important, a fountain pen with a solid barrel, if the barrel has any crack or holes it will leak, 2) 100% silicone grease, which is available at any hardware store in the US (I know that my friend, Sam at Future; Nostalgic was unable to locate this in the UK and substituted teflon tape), 3) an eyedropper or syringe to fill the barrel with ink and 4) fountain pen ink.

I prefer to use a clear or demonstrator type pen for this and chose, in this instance, a Hero FPS-006. The clear barrel allows me to monitor the ink level after conversion.

Remove the nib section from the barrel and remove the converter, saving it for future use.
Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the threads that join the barrel to the nib section and reassemble the pen, wipe any excess grease away and begin writing.

Fill the barrel with the desired fountain pen ink in this case, I chose J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune.

I have done this with three pens - the Hero FPS-006, a Sheaffer calligraphy pen with a medium nib and a Pilot Preppy, all with great success.

The Giveaway - I have five of these Hero FPS-006 to give away to five random readers; colors are neon yellow, red, green, orange and a grey, as seen above. These pens are not converted to eyedroppers, you'll get to do that if you would like to.
The rules are simple, just leave a comment on this post by midnight(EST-US) Saturday, November 14, and I will choose five random winners on the Sunday. Please be sure to give me your email address. This is open to all readers; no geographic limitations.

I would love one! I've recently joined the ranks of fountain pen users and I'm not looking back!
I would love one of those as well and would love the grey if possible oh well then I will take whatever color . Im not picky . Have a wonderfull day .
I'm glad to see the Ace logo on your silicon grease; if nothing else, standardization means that the Ace down the street probably has the same stuff that I could do this, too.
And thanks for the giveaway! I'd love a chance to try a new-to-me pen.
I would love to give the pen a whirl
Lowe's sells silicon grease also. What I found was called Plumber's Silicon Grease and it has worked on Preppies and Varsities.
Oh, I can always use another fountain pen. Thanks Okami! Nr

Sounds like fun!
I would love to try out one of those pens!
Convert me!
Welcome to the club! I've had a lot of fun converting my pens, although my hardware store never heard of Silicone Grease and sold me some other stuff that seals pipe threads. Poussiere de Lune was my choice for my first eyedropper, must be something about the color.
Cool, count me in! I like Heros, they're good and RELIABLE cheap pens :)

Very nice :) A great giveaway!
I love Hero pens, I've had a few and never had a wrong 'un yet! Yes, sign me up please. :)
I'm slightly troubled by "90% pure"-- what's the remaining 10%, and what's it likely to do to the fabric of the pen? In the case of modern plastics, it's likely a non-issue, but I come from a profoundly vintage place and worry about that sort of thing constantly.
Fidgeting aside; FREE PEN?! That would be keen! Hope I'm one of the lucky few!
Industrious. Hurray! I'd love to try a Hero without the hooded nib.
Very nice! Free giftaway!
Very cool, thanks for the contest!
Oooh--these pens look cute! Would love to try one if I win! Thanks so much for hosting this giveaway! :-)
Julie, this giveaway is cool!!! I've not yet seen a Hero Demonstrator and I'd love to have one. :)) I got clear demonstrators, but not colored ones yet. An orange or green would be great! :))
I would love to try a real Hero! I have a couple of knock-offs that I thought were the real thing. Eh, they work, so I won't complain too much. Please count me in!
I had learned to use silicone grease for a number of things in the military but was having a terrible time trying to find it in automotive stores. Never occurred to me to check Ace, have to give it a go.
Hi,
I would love to win a Hero demonstrator!
Thanks

pick me pick me pick me!!! yaaaay! THANKS :)
cool idea to convert to eyedropper pen. Is the main benefit the larger ink supply or satisfying the hacker urger?
I'd love to be one of those lucky five, come on orange!
What a coincidence! I recently bought some silicone grease to use while repairing a faucet.
I <3 fountain penz......
thank you for the opportunity :) i need some pens to balance out the gabillion journals that followed me home recently >< hehe addicts-r-us!
Wow, thanks for this chance to win a Hero! That would be so sweet and would take the sting out of my recent wrecking a new Pilot 78G that I dropped on its nib.
Julie, thanks for the opportunity to win one of these great pens! This is awesome!
